The Artist

Rob Wicke-Ekciw

Part of my life's work is in the chiseling away at my personas, my cages if you will, (am I turning this into another cage?), and one of the many beautiful things to come out this crazy process is the revelation of a creative beast, in the nicest, raw-ist sense.

I make my paintings for me, or rather I paint because I love to paint. I love to get lost and have no clear idea where I'm going until I've got there. In a way I'm abstracting - creating and removing layers of texture, shape and colour - in another way my subconscious needs to make meaning, and often steers the conversation towards the thin line between worlds. I'm aware of the irony of wanting to create something unknown, only to sneak the known in through the back door. But this is where I am. It's all grist for the mill. I'm excited to see where the endless journey takes me.
